Ho’opili Highlights from 2011Ho‘opili receives UNANIMOUS support from three Neighborhood Boards in West O‘ahu Makakilo/Kapolei/Honokai Hale, Waipahu and ‘Ewa Neighborhood Boards all voted unanimously to support Ho‘opili, a planned community situated between the three communities, that will feature 11,750 homes on 1,554 acres. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser publishes a positive editorial article on Ho‘opili Quote, “…the growth-policy big picture affirms that Ho‘opili is the logical site of new housing needed over the next two decades, accommodating Oahu’s population growth along the rail line.” (May 19, 2011) Cameron Nekota writes a compelling commentary for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s Island Voices column “The premise behind the master plan for Ho‘opili is that the built environment — streets, sidewalks, buildings and other infrastructure — can affect human health in positive ways. Horton – Schuler Homes announces agreement with the state Department of Education The company will provide 94 acres for five school campuses located throughout Ho‘opili – three elementary, one middle and one high school – for thousands of future students in West O‘ahu. Horton – Schuler Homes and Hoku Solar announce partnership to explore the construction of a photovoltaic (PV)solar farm for Ho‘opili The solar energy facility would be the largest Hoku has planned on O‘ahu to date. It would be located adjacent to the East Kapolei community and could deliver five megawatts of clean renewable energy at peak generating power.
