D.R. Horton – Schuler Division’s commitment to the communities it builds does not stop after construction is complete. The company knows that creating quality homes is only the first step toward building quality communities.

Through work with the Schuler Family Foundation, local charities and community programs are able to receive the support necessary to strengthen and improve the quality of life for island residents. The Schuler Family Foundation and the company together give over $1 million each year in charitable donations to local non-profit organizations to help strengthen and improve the quality of life for residents and their communities.
  • Read-To-Win D.R. Horton – Schuler Division created its signature Read-to-Win program in 2004 to encourage reading and promote literacy in public schools.
D.R. Horton – Schuler Division created its signature Read-to-Win program in 2004 to encourage reading and promote literacy in public schools. Since its inception, the company has invested more than $132,000 in participating schools including Mauka Lani, Mā‘ili, Barbers Point, ‘Ewa and Makakilo Elementary Schools. Over 1,500 students participate annually.

Each school year, the Read-to-Win requirements are worked into classroom curriculum to complement each school’s respective language arts program and give keiki an additional incentive to read. Students from kindergarten through fifth grade read a set number of books throughout the school year or a targeted number of pages at home each night in order to meet reading goals. As students meet their goals, they “win” money for their school.

Aside from receiving much-needed monetary support, participating schools have found an increasing number of keiki eager to participate in the literacy program each year and a significant number of students progressing to higher reading levels.

Read-to-Win not only fosters a love of books in students, but it gives them the opportunity to actively participate in raising funds to benefit their entire school. D.R. Horton – Schuler Division is proud to sponsor this program which offers keiki a fun and nurturing outlet to contribute to the quality of the classroom.
