Task Force Vision Statement

The Community Task Force identified three key values they believe should guide future development in ‘Ewa. They want to see Ho‘opili be a community that is:

  • Connected Ho‘opili will offer smart transportation options and cutting–edge technology.
    The Task Force’s vision to make Ho‘opili a connected community include:

    • Connecting the City of Kapolei with the surrounding communities of ‘Ewa, ‘Ewa Beach, ‘Ewa Villages, Honouliuli, Kalaeloa, Kunia, Makakilo, Waipahu, West Loch, and the rest of O‘ahu;

    • Making it easy for residents to connect to local shops, parks, schools and employment areas, such as the City of Kapolei and the planned University of Hawai‘i at West O‘ahu, through a walkable, transit–oriented community with pedestrian/bicycle paths;

    • Acknowledging the transportation issues in ‘Ewa, and providing a thoughtful and real response to these issues; and

    • Using technology to connect businesses and residents with others to create a healthy “live–work” environment.

  • An excellent lifestyle Ho‘opili will provide a lifestyle-enhanced community.
    The Task Force’s vision to make Ho‘opili a life–style enhanced community include:

    • Creating a healthy, balanced and vibrant community that offers a unique urban lifestyle in a “village” setting;

    • Providing a wide diversity of housing, including “attainable” housing;

    • Creating a “gateway” to West O‘ahu that establishes a strong sense of place and a warm sense of community, both for this generation and the next;

    • Planning for schools of every type: public and private, daycare through bachelor’s degree, and life–long learning opportunities;

    • Providing more quality jobs so people can live, work and thrive in their own community; and

    • Providing a gathering place that creates another true community “center” and gives residents “somewhere to go.”

  • Sustainable Ho‘opili will be sustainable and work to preserve the environment.
    The Task Force’s vision to make Ho‘opili a sustainable, “green” community include:

    • Incorporating green building practices and be an environmentally-sound, healthy and resource-efficient community;

    • Providing lots of parks, open space and community facilities;

    • Planning for and properly phase utility infrastructure development;

    • Reducing automobile dependency by creating a compact community with a mix of uses;

    • Preserving views to Diamond Head and surrounding mountains; and

    • Preserving and protecting O‘ahu’s precious natural resources.
